This morning I am going for a walk into the fishing port/marina of Latchi in Cyprus. It’s very near the Akamas National Park and very old historic town of Polis. This part of Cyprus is quite unspoilt and favoured by the Cypriots. It is getting more popular with UK ex pats who want to move out of busier areas like Paphos.
What is really interesting, at the moment, is that most of the visitors seem to German. This, of course, is a step in the right direction for the effective functioning of the Euro. Unfortunately, the Mediterranean countries need a lot more Germans, Austrians and Dutch to make the Euro viable.
Cyprus used to be very popular with UK tourists but these days Russian tourists are probably more significant – Cyprus is just three hours from Moscow by air compared to four and a half hours from the UK. Interestly, there was a large group of French people in a fish taverna in Latchi the other day.
