I found this Lonely Planet article really interesting. It’s well worth checking out if you interested in Chinese food or are planning to visit China.
When we are in China in October, it will be interesting to see how adventurous we are with the food, especially the cooked breakfasts!
My wife’s Chinese but she preferes bacon and eggs for breakfast…. truthfully Chinese breakfasts often leave a lot to be desired, congee is the worst thing in the world to end up on a table and it’s absolutely mandatory in the mornings.
Many thanks. I’m sure that you are being a bit tough on Chinese breakfasts.
We have a marketing expression here, the “Great British Beakfast” – unfortunately, it’s very unhealthy.
I shall remain open minded to the Great Chinese Breakfast”
Personally, I like a bowl of porridge oats in the morning. Perhaps, I’ll try the Chinese equivalent!
I like oat porridges too – but there’s an almost universal agreement amongst the expats here that congee is nothing like porridge. 🙂
You definitely should try a Chinese breakfast – it makes you realise how much you appreciate the unhealthy option. Because I live here – my breakfast is normally a couple of slices of toast, but a fry up once every other month or so – is the least of my health issues (I’m a 40 a day smoker). 🙂
OK I’ll try the Chinese breakfast but will be wary of the the congee. I stopped smoking years ago – one of the best decisions in my life!
