I must admit that I had not heard of the concept of odious debt. Whilst I have sympathy for Greece and her citizens, I am far from convinced that we have an odious debt situation here. What do you think?

This article from the Guardian is spot-on, in my view. There has been no transformation under the Coalition Government, just bacon-slicing at core services. For me, people like Treasury Secretary, Danny Alexander sound like broken records stuck on:

  • Austerity
  • Austerity
  • Austerity

According to Wikipedia, here is a summary of Danny Alexander’s early career:

In 1993 and 1994, Alexander worked as a press officer with the Scottish Liberal Democrats, before spending eight years as the Director of Communications at the European Movement (1996–1999) and its successor organisation, the Britain in Europe campaign (1999–2004).

In 2004 and 2005, he was the Head of Communications for the recently formed Cairngorms National Park Authority.

Of course, it would be it be unfair to focus exclusively on Danny Alexander, so here is the same data for George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer:

Osborne’s first job was entering the names of people who had died in London into a National Health Service computer.[13] He also briefly worked for Selfridges, re-folding towels.[13] He originally intended to pursue a career in journalism, but instead got a job at Conservative Central Office.[13]

I am not optimistic about George Osborne’s UK Budget. I expect more of the same:
