Personally, I have voted Tory all my life but I no longer identify with the Conservative Party led by Prime Minister David Cameron.

What do you think?

  2. Conservatism means strong law and order, low taxes, pro business policies, competition, personal freedom and strong defence.

It means sound public finances and a presumption that the citizen should be left with his or her own money after tax to make informed choices as to what to do with it.

What we have under David Cameron is none of these things either in belief or practice:

–Our defences are weak and we could not if pushed, defend our sea lanes if someone, as the Germans did in both World Wars, decided to starve us to death by sinking our shipping.

We are also not self sufficient in food so we could be blackmailed by food producers or countries from which our food comes.

Already 5000 farmers a year go out of business and 150 commit suicide and we pay some of the highest food prices in Europe.

Traditionally, Conservative Governments have supported our farmers but David Cameron cares nothing for them.

–Our finances are unsound yet there is no strategy for growth and jobs and we deliver less value per taxpayer pound than 16 other countries.

–Our personal and corporate tax regime is uncompetitive and we have a Third World transport system and no proper airport strategy.

–We are fixated by Global Warming and Green Taxes which render us uncompetitive.

–We have a Public Sector which is unaffordable yet nothing is done to tackle waste in Local Authorities, the NHS or the Civil Service and nothing is done to bring bankers, those behind them and people fleecing budgets to book (i.e. trial, conviction, jail and recovery of what they have stolen).
For example the Olympic Games budget has overrun five times as did the ill fated Millenium Dome, where is the excess money and who has it?

There has been no accountability and no forensic examination of the disposition of every penny of expenditure.

–As an island we have to export which means language training and more exporting assistance.

Under a true Conservative like Margaret Thatcher this would be given priority and overseas aid would be cut.

What we now have is the opposite.

I have always voted Conservative as the least worst choice out of a selection of relatively useless people most of the time but to me Mr. Cameron needs to go and be replaced by someone much more effective.
