Recently, the Cabinet Office were congratulating themselves on what a good job they were doing but the Independent newspaper reports on a Public Accounts Committee report saying that they (viz. the Cabinet Office) should have done much better.

£800m a year ‘wasted on empty offices’ – UK Politics – UK – The Independent.

For me, Margaret Hodge, the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee  is one of my heroes. Time and time again, Ms. Hodge is a highly effective thorn in the Government‘s side, challenging the effectiveness of Public Sector  performance.

Regular readers will remember that this blog has consistently argued for the gold standard in political leadership to be:

  • Strong leadership
  • Overarching vision
  • Coordinated and carefully analyzed strategy, and
  • Fully risked assessed, properly costed  and effectively managed delivery plans
