This is an interesting article and worth a read. It looks at some powerful research from political economist David Stuckler. Check it out!

Publicising the book, David Stuckler says:

“Austerity is having a devastating effect on health in Europe and North America. The harms we have found include HIV and malaria outbreaks, shortages of essential medicines, lost healthcare access, and an avoidable epidemic of alcohol abuse, depression and suicide, among others.

“Our politicians need to take into account the serious, and in some cases profound, health consequences of economic choices. But so far, Europe’s leaders have been in denial of the evidence that austerity is costing lives.”

Surely, politicians will soon see austerity as a poison chalice?

This is an excellent article by Nick Robinson, Political Editor, writing for BBC News. Check it out!

BBC News – How has immigration changed Britain?.

This article captures quite fairly, in my view, what is a major political issue for the next UK election.

This is already a really hot issue and that’s before the Romanians and Bulgarians arrive.

It’s not clear to me that David Cameron‘s Coalition Government has an effective policy. Part of the issue, is that the young turks at the Conservative Central Office have been pre-occupied in trying to appeal to gays and ethnic minorities.

Economists argue that immigration is a healthy process but that fails to address the serious social and political challenge. Part of the problem is that it’s the underside of society that feel most threatened.

What do you think?
