This video from the BBC is well worth a view. Check it out!
BBC News – Unite: NHS falling into chaos and crisis.
The video provides an interview with Rachael Maskell, head of Health for Unite, UK’S largest union, who said the NHS (National Health Service) was falling into chaos and crisis.
Whilst I do not agree with the union’s views, I accept the conclusions that the NHS is falling into chaos and crisis. The union is focusing on the increasing outsourcing to the private as being bad for healthcare; surely, the reality is that it is a wake-up call to their members who have operated restrictive practices for years?
Personally, I feel that David Cameron’s government has been ineffective on healthcare policy. It has not cut costs of the NHS bureaucracy sufficiently aggressively; the consequence has been a serious fall in levels of front-line services and availability of best medication. Now we are seeing a hotchpotch of initiatives to outsource services without overall vision, strategy, and risk analysis.
As the UK continues with austerity policies, there must be further cuts to the NHS, in my view. Incidentally, austerity policies have been totally discredited by every respectable economist and even the IMF is challenging the UK austerity as being excessive.
Sadly, patients will continue to suffer because David Cameron’s government has made a mess of healthcare policy, just like economic policy, in my view.
Any thoughts?
