The article quotes President Obama at length. Obama takes a hard look at the economic roller-coaster and the outlook for jobs. The historical perspective is excellent but Obama shies away from prescriptive policies to improve matters.

Many of the observations about jobs, especially for the less skilled and less educated are transferable to other countries, in particular, the UK and much of Southern Europe.
