This is a somewhat worrying story from Harold James published by Project Syndicate. This is a MUST READ article, in my view. Check it out!

Harold James is Professor of History and International Affairs at Princeton University and Professor of History at the European University Institute, Florence. He’s a specialist on German economic history.

The historical analysis is really interesting but it’s important remember that other historians see matters very differently. The parallels between 2014 and 1914 are quite sobering but it’s important to remember that history is a poor predictor of the future.

On the other hand, the story will certainly appeal to conspiracy theorists. No doubt they will be citing the French ban on Mercedes cars which is provoking German fury according to the FT.

Any thoughts?

This is an excellent and insightful, MUST READ article from Stephen Roach, published by Project Syndicate.

Personally, I am confident that the Chinese leadership will successfully rebalance economy away from exports and investment to a more consumer oriented model. Of course, the scale of the transformation is truly staggering, so it will certainly be a bit bumpy.

Sadly, when one considers the tenacity of the Chinese leadership, one can only reflect on the anemic qualities of many European leaders. Take David Cameron, for example, he still can’t see (or indeed face) that the NHS is now in a state of terminal cancer.
