The JP article cites evidence that the US is closer to intervening in Syria.

Any thoughts?

Obama, the US and proven widespread use of chemical weapons in Syria – what next?

Bashar al-Assad, President of Syria and Region...

Here are two excellent articles on this story. Both are MUST READS, in my view.

The first article is published by the Washington Post and entitled Obama, the US and Chemical Weapons in Syria.

The second is a lead article from the Economist entitled Syria: A step too far.

Personally, I think that this is a difficult judgement call for President Obama but agree with the Economist that if there is independent confirmation of widespread use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime, then there is a compelling case for international intervention, especially given Obama’s “red line” speech; the scope, substance and form of any intervention needs the support of the international community.

Let me turn this to an open question:

If there is independent confirmation of widespread deployment of chemical weapons in Syria by the Assad regime, how should President Obama and the international community respond?

Any thoughts?
