For me, the story highlights how a US a led international military intervention in Syria, could easily trigger unintended consequences and regional escalation.
At least we are getting serious thoughtful analysis from Israel’s media; meanwhile Middle East Special UN Envoy, Tony Blair is reported to be visiting a series of super yachts in the Mediterranean.

If Assad is attacked by the West it is very likely that Israel and some of the other countries supplying the rebels such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia will be targetted as well.
It may be counterproductive for Assad to do this but it will also be counterproductive for the rest of us if a wider Middle East War creates a damaging spike in oil prices which in turn pushes us into depression.
Similarly, we do not know what China and Russia will do either now or at some distant point in the future when they are more powerful.
A wider Middle East war is going to create more terrorists, more ill feeling, more refugees, more casualties amongst our troops, more costs on the taxpayer that they cannot afford and a growing “enemy within”, inside the UK and Europe.
This as the Muslim population increases faster than the indigenous one and eventually outnumbers the indigenous population of each host country so that a new Caliphate becomes the “fact on the ground” representing the “Ghost of Christmas Future” within perhaps 30 years.
