Self-serving posturing over Syria Posted by Melanie Phillips

English: US President Barack Obama and British...

English: US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron trade bottles of beer to settle a bet they made on the U.S. vs. England World Cup Soccer game (which ended in a tie), during a bilateral meeting at the G20 Summit in Toronto, Canada, Saturday, June 26, 2010. Open this link for an excellent article by Melanie Phillips on the weakness of the Western military intervention in Syria, in response to the widespread use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime against the rebels in Syria. This is an EXCELLENT MUST READ article, in my view.

This is one of the best analyses that I have seen on this emerging crisis, focusing on the flawed judgment of UK Prime Minister, David Cameron and naivety of US President, Barack Obama. The article correctly focuses on Iran being the overall strategic threat and questions the wisdom of the tactical intervention in Syria.

Personally, I can empathize strongly with this viewpoint. I worry about the judgement and leadership of both David Cameron and Barrack Obama.

Any thoughts?

  4. David Cameron and Barack Obama are not really leaders at all just puppets taking instructions from other people and parroting nonsense.
The question of the threat posed by Iran which Dr Alf refers to and which is contained in Melanie Phillips,s post is more nonsense based on a mistranslation from the Farsi of what Arminajad ,the previous Iranian President actually said.
The Zionist,APAC,Wolf Blitzer, official US State Department and Melanie Phillips view is that Arminajad said that “Israel was to be wiped from the face of the earth”.
In reality he said that “Over the passage of time the Israeli regime would pass away into history”.
Clearly,Israel and its apologists and supporters looking for more American military aid want people to believe the more apocalyptic first version rather than the second ,which is a matter of opinion only.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar which are run by Sheiks whose regimes we support see Iran as a regional rival and because the West wants their oil and likes to sell them weapons systems ,it suits us to portray Iran as a threat with a regime to be “taken down.”
The reality is that the plan was always to “take down” 7 +countries in 5 years(Libya,Lebanon,Syria,Yemen,Somalia,Iran,Iraq and Afghanistan).
This was described by General Wesley Clarke in a You Tube interview which people can see, describing a visit to the Pentagon when he was shown a map with each of these countries earmarked for regime change.
Iran is no threat to Israel or anyone else and neither is Syria.
We seem to think that we can tell other countries what to do,how to behave and whether or not to have nuclear weapons, unless of course it is Israel,a country which has more than 200 nuclear weapons.
Iran and Syria may be run by odious and repugnant people we do not like but we should leave well alone, stop warmongering, stop pontificating and attend to our own problems which are serious and longstanding
