Academic claims doctors and nurses ‘don’t need to show compassion’ to patients | Mail Online.
Surprisingly, I find myself agreeing with UK Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, for a change.
Personally, I struggle to understand healthcare without compassion. I think that nurses and doctors have too much power in UK society and the government should intervene with measures to promote return to effective care, including compassion.
Let me turn this to an open question:
How should the UK Government intervene in healthcare policy so that patetients get more compassion from doctors and nurses?

The answer to Dr Alf,s question is simple, appoint different medical staff and as part of their selection ensure that they are “sympathetic harmonsisers” who put the needs of other people first.
As “belt and braces” they need to be taught NLP so that they can cope better and deal with troublesome and difficult patients and not burn out.
Nurses and doctors without bedside manner need to be put through a performance review, trained in NLP and bedside manner and encouraged to improve their nurturing and rapport building skills.
Those that fail should be dismissed or found non patient facing work.
