For  sure, the EU does not seem  to  have  a coordinated and  strategic approach to energy, investment and foreign affairs.

Let me turn this to an open question:

Why is the EU not turning  to  Cyprus‘ offshore LPG as a strategic investment opportunity?

Any thoughts?

  1. The answer to Dr Alf’s question about Cyprus is because it is not on the agenda.

The current crisis in the Ukraine suits the UK Government because it allows food and energy prices to rise thus improving tax take from VAT without any need to increase income taxes.

It also allows the present energy crisis to worsen to the point where there are blackouts(current energy supply only provides 4% headroom in good weather).

Once this point is reached, fracking can begin in earnest, with drilling licences sold to those who support or are friendly to the Government for the maximum price.

Jobs will be created by the fracking and the Government can argue that the crisis in the Ukraine and the UK’s rising population forced their hand.

Some of this revenue will go into the NHS, which will soon be £32 billion gbp in debt and ready to financially implode in some particularly badly managed NHS Trusts. The rest will be wasted or will be “unaccounted for” through “cockups”,the antics of civil servants and local authorities.

Cyprus does not even come up on the radar.
