Like China, India is still sensitive to Japan’s WWII record.

Personally, I found the article interesting since I have developed a passion for twentieth century history. Also I am able to relate to my own extended visit to India this year. It is clear to me that modern India would have been much slower to emerge without the British Empire. Whilst it is fashionable to challenge the excesses of colonialism, I was surprised how many Indian people still felt an affection for the UK.

Any thoughts?

The article looks at how new prime ministers in France and Italy will look to reverse the EU’s strait-jacket of austerity.

Any thoughts on whether France should rank as a special case?
