This is an amazing story in the Telegraph. It’s a must be read. Check it out!
via Britain denied key EU role for not picking a woman – Telegraph.
Clearly, Jean-Claude Juncker, the new head of the European Commission is trying to demonstrate his leadership skills, but he seems rather light on diplomacy and influencing.
Surely, it’s time for the European Commission to be run by professionals with relevant experience? For example look at energy at the EC which is run by a French bureaucrat with the wrong skill-set.
Europe is at risk because of its ineffective leadership.

Juncker may be light on influencing and may like his wine too much.
The EU has many un-elected people, with the wrong skills as Dr Alf has pointed out.
However, this does not alter the fact that the UK has less and less influence in the EU, as a result of David Cameron’s inability to negotiate any meaningful concessions.
This in turn begs the question as to what David Cameron will be able to do to get concessions from the EU and Angela Merkel between now and the election on May 2015, which may see him out of power or replaced.
In my view, he will get nowhere and will be replaced but he has done so much damage to our global standing that his successor will find it very difficult to get concessions as well.
Europe itself does not speak with one voice, and in reality it is Mrs Merkel who calls the tune so there is German influence but very little from Europe as a whole.
