Dr Alf is right but a country like China, which until a few years ago, could not feed its own people has first to be able to feed them and then house them and then provide them with jobs.
This has been achieved at the rate of 25 million new jobs a year and a pace of development equivalent to 100 years of progress compressed into 10 years. No country in the world has ever done that until the Chinese managed it.
When we speak of human rights, we need to be clear what we mean. For example, a single woman walking about the streets of London, New York or any major city in the US late at night is not safe from being accosted, given unwelcome and unwarranted attention and possibly being raped. Both the US and the UK are democracies yet this very basic “right” is not guaranteed. In China which is a dictatorship such a woman would be safe.
When it comes to privacy the US and the UK spy on their own citizenry and the UK has more cameras per head of population than does China.
Supposedly we have freedom in the West to elect our leaders whilst the people of China have no such say. The reality is that in the West the candidates are pre-selected by the Bilderbergers, long before we ever get to vote on them and out of 44 US Presidents all but 10 of them have been related to just 2 people,Alfred the Great and Charlemagne.
In the West, we can write what we want and say what we want as long as it is not against the laws of obscenity, libel and in breach of State Secrets. However, what we are told by the print and broadcast media does not resemble the truth even remotely, so we comment from a position of ignorance of the facts unless we read and research much more widely.
Yes, we have more rights than the Chinese but they are safer from burglars, muggers, rapists and terrorists than we will ever be because they, unlike us, take a firm line with criminals, terrorists, seditionists and traitors.
From what I see, a better approach than ours is the approach of Singapore and Switzerland which produces prosperity, order, tranquility and an environment in which people are able to go about their business peacefully and single woman and others can plan their lives and evenings without unwarranted disruption or trouble from vociferous minorities.
