Personally, I am not surprised that ‘ordinary Germans’ are having second thoughts about sanctions on Russia. After all, sanctions are impacting the German economy and Russia seems to be shrugging off sanctions.
The trouble with sanctions is that they have such an uncertain impact and one cannot project the next step in the progressive escalation.
Surely our ‘ordinary Germans’ would perhaps sooner look after themselves and abandon East Europe to the Russians?
And after focusing on East Europe, perhaps our ‘ordinary Germans’ will focus on the need for South Europe?
