Sitting here in our room in Frankfurt, we are still talking of our fantastic visit toBrugge over the weekend.

It was a wonderful experience wandering down the narrow lanes and cobbled streets, viewing the exquisite architecture, some buildings dating back to circa twelfth century, with each facade being different to its next door neighbour.

Wondering round the beautiful market square,  we saw medieval houses but unfortunately arrived just a bit too late for the Saturday market (for more information see the Markt). Nearby is the famous Burg which houses theHelig Bloed Basiliek (the Basilica of the Holy Blood), Bruges‘ holiest church, plus one of the oldest and most photographed town halls in Belgium (the Stadhuis) and numerous art galleries and museums nearby.

Not to forget to mention, this is the city for chocoholics, with innumerable shops whose windows are graced with tempting handmade Belgian chocolates, plus lace and other designer shops selling something for everybody.

Finally, there is an excellent choice of restaurants and traditional tea shops.

If you haven’t yet visited Brugge, we highly recommend that you do!

Now we must explore Frankfurt….
