Going back to Henry Kessinger’s Cold War, Turkey has always been regarded by the US as strategic. Yet with latest foreign policy from Turkey, there are increasing signs that the US now regards nearby Cyprus as strategic. Last year, US Vice President, Joe Biden, visited Cyprus and stressed Cyprus’ geopolitical importance with offshore gas and oil in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Some months ago, I was hiking near the coast in Cyprus and witnessed Israeli jets screaming overhead in a joint excercize. Now I’ll have to look more carefully at the markings.
