There are two obvious factors to note. Firstly, there’s the divide between Obama‘s policy for the Ukraine and the emerging European view. Secondly, we are witnessing Germany’s Chancellor, Angela Merkel, taking a bold decision and a risk in visiting Moscow. No doubt, President Putin will try to drive a wedge between Europe and the US.

Obama seems to be turning against many of America’s traditional friends – but he’s happy to encourage Iran.
