This article from Bloomberg Business is deeply worrying, as Russia signals that arming Ukraine will lead to war. Clearly, a further collapse in oil prices, plus sanctions will cripple Russia – so rather than be crippled, Russia could well be emboldened to fight her corner?

The US should remember that they have a weak President in Obama, and that sanctions on Imperial Japan precipitated Pearl Harbour.

  1. IF you mean a weak president as one who is not ready to wage war consistently.. than I agree. IF you believe my fellow Republicans that he is incompetent because he prefers peace rather than war.. than I think you are misjudging him. Unlike his predecessor he prefers to engage a coalition rather than being the Worlds policeman. Americans are fed up with war. While Obama has his faults he is not so weak as you imply. It is the old style of Teddy Roosevelt.. “speak softly and carry a big stick”. The US Military is as big of a stick anyone would need to use… but we yanks prefer it not be used unless absolutely necessary. From Ukraine to Iran to dealings with China and North Korea.. even ISIS… the public prefers NO TROOPS.. arming Ukraine will also not be a US decision alone as many fail to remember we will work as a coalition not as a single entity under Obama’s administration. Personally I believe arming Ukraine is the right move. Putin is acting with impunity… he needs to be stopped. Out of 250+ ships in the Russian Navy less and 50 are seaworthy… his economy is in ruins and his revenues are insufficient… he can consider it an act of war but so what… besides launching nuclear weapons.. which he won’t. what can he do to wage war back… He is a paper tiger making a lot of noise.. in reality Russia is currently irrelevant in the world today.. and that is what makes Putin rage against anyone who is not supporting him. The old guard of Russians remember when they thought they were a world power… those days are effectively gone.
