I am surprised that the Social Democrats and the Greens in Germany have been so strong in their opinions.

Personally, I believe that every effort should be made to separate discussions on reparations and refinancing Greece.

Whatever your politics, the UK has been open to global competition since Margaret Thatcher’s leadership. The UK has had her problems, especially after the 2008 financial crisis, but she responded vigorously, and is now growing strongly.

Germany seems quick to suggest reform for Southern Europe but is slow too reform herself. Many of Germany’s industries, especially the service sector, are heavily protected from international competition.

Airline pilots in full service airlines are an anachronism and need to be exposed to global competition. This is in the consumers’ interest surely?
