Dr Alf poses an interesting conundrum in that Netanyahu cannot rebuild relations with America until President Obama has left office.

What he can do is build relations with those who will succeed President Obama and with business-people of sufficient stature who can be persuaded to invest in Israel.

He can reach out to China with its new bank, find areas of agreement with European leaders and with those most likely to succeed President Putin.

Above all, he must try to avoid overreaching himself or his military because attacking Natanz in Iran could well be the modern equivalent of the Allied thrust against the bridge at Remagen(“A Bridge too Far – video”)

Sadly, as much as I agree with Dr Alf, nothing will change, unless we start taking an ax to those in non-jobs in the public sector, derecognising the trades unions in the public sector and merging councils, police forces and fire commands into no more than 12 regional units for England and Wales plus one of each for Northern Ireland. Those remaining would then be read the riot act and placed on performance led contracts. Average performers would be trained, the good ones advanced and the useless cleared out and their roles outsourced.

The private sector would then be placed on notice to improve and annual holiday entitlements would be reduced to 4 weeks until such time as productivity rose to acceptable levels.

Variable taxes on foods would be applied as part of a package of measures, including refusal of elective surgery for the morbidly obese to reduce the size of under-performing UK workers and their costs to the country.
