I have always wanted a deal to be done with Iran but not at any price.

The process of negotiating with Iran has as Dr Alf knows, been going on for many years without the Iranians making any useful concessions. That is because insufficient pressure was brought to bear against the intransigent Ayatollahs and because they knew that Natanz and Fordo could not be successfully destroyed because no bomb was big enough to penetrate 200 feet of reinforced concrete or a mountain.

This situation has now been addressed, with a live test on American soil of a new 30,000 pound thermobaric weapon. capable of penetrating 200 feet through reinforced concrete before detonation. Theoretically, destroying each of Iran’s nuclear centrifuge building operations would take two of these bombs dropped from a B2.

Congress certainly needs to debate the Bill but a further demonstration of this new weapon’s capability, perhaps needs to be made to the Ayatollahs, so that they are in no doubt that further prevarication. John Kerry is a poor negotiator and Obama is an ineffective lame-duck trying to create a legacy for himself. We cannot afford a further mistake, so Congress needs to come-up with a Bill with effective safeguards. Otherwise it’s time to listen to the hawks.

I particularly pondered the following extract from the article:

The breath test makes it possible to screen people at high risk for stomach cancer, such as high alcohol intake, a diet high in salty and smoked foods and low in vegetables and fruits, a family history of the tumor and smoking.

My mind switched to the national debates in the UK on the future of the NHS, ahead of the general election. It is significant that the UK has one of the worst record’s for cancer outcomes in Europe. But the UK NHS has enormous resources diverted to people with ‘high alcohol intake, a diet high in salty and smoked foods and low in vegetables and fruits, a family history of the tumor and smoking’.

Is it time to reallocate how the spends its public healthcare budget for greater effectiveness?
