This is a very powerful and deeply alarming article from EurActiv.

via EPP: EU should tell Russia we are ready to go to war | EurActiv.

The article highlights latest research and cites the views of right-wing politicians across Europe.

The crux of the argument is that Russia is intent on destroying both the EU and NATO. The response from the hard-liners is  the ‘EU should tell Russia we are ready to go to war’.

Russians and military tacticians would laugh at this story. Without the US, Europe is hopelessly weak militarily. The only European countries with significant military forces are France and the UK. Sadly, the UK’s military spending has been savaged in the last four years, with draconian austerity cuts.

As I digested the implications of this article, my mind reflected on the UK election and the negotiations with Iran over nuclear disarmament.

Given how quickly President Putin moved in on Iran to secure advantages for Russia, I speculated on secret meetings between Russians and SNP supporters in Edinburgh?

With Europe talking about war with Russia, surely the UK needs a strong government. Imagine, a Labour Party/SNP alliance and the UK drawn into war, without an effective military capability?

Surely, it makes more sense to pressure the Conservatives to slacken off on austerity and maintain an effective UK military deterrent?

Thoughts?

  1. Dr Alf brings us a piece of political pantomime.

Europe is incapable of defending itself and the UK does not have credible forces with a Tri Forces of 100,000 men and woman.

France with 250,000 people in its army is the American’s ally of choice but it along with all other European armies lacks fighting and storming robots, super-drones of the kind Russia is now building, weather warfare capability or space based weapons.

Russia has perhaps the largest thermobaric bombs in the world, advanced fighters that can cloak themselves and strike invisibly and a later version of the orbital fractional bombardment weapon which can attack targets anywhere on the planet from space. The latest weapon of this type has been passed off by the Russians as a new kind of satellite but even against the old weapon Europe is a sitting duck.

America is the only country in the world that can fight Russia or protect Europe as it has the largest forces and the most advanced weaponry but even if it did come to Europe’s aid, it could well have to contend with China.

Europe should try to rebuild its economy and create jobs and curtail this sort of warmongering rhetoric until it really can “Speak softly and carry a big stick”.
