Our third article focusing on Baltimore today is from the LA Times. This outstanding article looks at the political reality of black American leaders confronting black rioters, deploying a conservative and largely black police-force.

There are excellent cameos in this descriptive article.

Overall the article leaves the reader pondering two open question:

  1. So if its black political leaders deploying a largely black police force to contain rioters, this not just about racial prejudice?
  2. Is Baltimore just about poverty and alienation?

Health Problems Take Root in a West Baltimore Neighborhood That Is Sick of Neglect – NYTimes.com

Our second article looking at Baltimore is an excellent subjective article from the NYT. It’s a must-read. Check it out!

This article looks at the Baltimore challenges from the viewpoint of a black grandmother – she’s seriously overweight and in poor health and she hopes that she’ll live long enough to see her grand-children married. It then cites other case studies. Finally, it distills the material and sets the scene of contemporary Baltimore and the challenges.

For me, this is outstanding journalism.
