UK nationals who retire overseas are barred from access to the NHS, despite paying UK taxes all their lives. This is particularly hard on people who live in the US and Canada.

Meanwhile, immigrants and their families have unrestricted access to the NHS, irrespective of their tax contributions.

On the other hand, many UK citizens live overseas but don’t declare their non-residence to the UK authorities to continue to receive access to the NHS – they know that the UK’s Home Office does not track their time out of the UK.

Surely, this is plain unfair?

The NHS and all its stakeholders are not held to account and never have been. Meanwhile, the government does not have the stomach to effectively reform the NHS. The NHS is one the world’s largest bureaucracies. The trajectory is obvious.

Despite and appalling record of healthcare outcomes, individuals are not effectively held to account, nor are their pensions withheld.
