The UK’s Guardian speculates that suspending the vetting of Syrian migrants has made her unpopular, but the chancellor may be thinking more about leaving her mark on German and international politics.
For sure, Angela Merkel is taking big risks. I agree with the Guardian that she’s perhaps looking for an out.

I think Dr Alf and the Guardian newspaper could well be right as Angela Merkel may well be on the move having left a legacy which can form the storyline to her memoirs.
