According to Bloomberg, Canadians are tired of austerity and looking for fast answers. It questions whether Treadeu’s government can government deliver?

On the back of lower energy prices, I think that Canada needs to brace herself for a reality check. Like Australians, Canadians must learn that there’s no free lunch. Europeans will readily share that there’s no magic alternative to austerity.

It will be interesting to see how financial markets view Trudeau’s policies.

I sense that Canada must be ready for some bitter medicine.

  1. Whether Dr Alf is right to say that he senses Canada must be ready to accept “bitter medicine” is questionable.
    This not least because Canadians want a quick solution whereas fixing their economy is going to involve a hard slog and considerable pain.

    • John, you are right. I sense that Canadians have voted for a quick solution. As you say, they will learn that fixing the economy will be a hard slog with considerable pain.
