The UK’s Daily Mail reports that patients who gave up alcohol for four weeks were at lower risk of developing cancer and diabetes, according to a new study at London’s Royal Free Hospital.

These findings are both hard-hitting and far reaching. It’s a shame that the Mail has not cited the actual evidence, so that people can evaluate it for themselves. It’s not good enough to quote a doctor and publish the above headline. What about conflicting evidence?
Unfortunately, the UK government through the National Health Service is not doing enough to promote moderate alcohol consumption. It’s just like obesity which is another time bomb.
Sadly, people who binge on alcohol, food or drugs shrug their shoulders at research evidence – they know that Britain’s public healthcare service will give them priority treatment.
Things will not change until the props are removed, like introducing a range of charges for public healthcare in the UK.
