The Independent reports that Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal was evacuated “for the protection of the public” this morning after a suspicious item was found. The article describes how hundreds of people were photographed standing outside the airport in the rain after being told to leave the airport at around 10 AM.

Whilst I can understand the need for evacuation, I worry to what extent the contingency plans have been tested and risk assessed.

According to Sky News, the French President vows he will be “merciless” against those behind the attacks which killed at least 127 people.

Today our thoughts are with those who have been tragically killed and injured, plus their families.

After proper mourning, there will surely need to be a new strategy for dealing with terrorism in the broadest sense?
