Sadly for Jonathan Freedland and the rest of us, there is little possibility of politicians or newspapers telling the truth about anything because the entire system is designed to confuse, obfuscate, dissemble and create mirages of competing ideas, when in reality both sides of the argument are being controlled by the same people who meet periodically to design the appearance of titanic struggles.

Dr Alf worries about Donald Trump, yet Trump is a personal friend of the Clintons who attended his wedding to his present wife. Hillary Clinton will get elected as surely as night follows day, as was decided more than two years ago and Donald Trump will carry on making money.

Boris Johnson is an opportunist who may or may not succeed David Cameron because the Conservatives might decide to skip a generation and go for someone like Andrea Leadsom who is seen as more credible.

Politicians can say what they like in America but the power to choose Presidents does not lie with the American electorate but is decided by the Council For Foreign Relations long before voters get anywhere near a voting booth. That is why 34 out of 44 American Presidents are direct descendants of just 2 people, Alfred the Great and Charlemagne.
