This excellent Economist blog suggests that the presumptive Republican nominee’s attack on a judge suggests a worrying disregard for judicial independence.

Of course, suppression of freedoms may start with the judiciary but it typically soon includes the media, where the end justifies the means and evidence is subordinated.

In the rush to embrace right-wing populism, basic freedoms seem to be increasingly at risk.
