In this excellent FT article, Martin Wolf speculates on the options for Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Wolf suggests that Johnson might forget the whole Brexit thing or, alternatively, call another referendum. He argues that trade access to the EU on attractive terms is not compatible with restriction on free movement of people. It will be an either or, unless the EU can be encouraged to restrict movement of people.
Wolf concludes by suggesting that a twelve month status quo might be a safe option.
For me, it is obvious why Johnson et al have not articulated their Brexit plan – there has been no detailed planning nor risk assessment.
A cooling off period seems a good idea to look at damage limitation.
