This is deeply worrying news for families buying chicken in UK supermarkets. Food Safety News reports that Cambridge University researchers have found antibiotic-resistant E. coli on 24 percent of chicken samples tested from the seven largest supermarkets in the U.K. That contamination level is four times higher than results from a similar study done last year.
Let’s face it, there’s a global crisis in terms of overuse of antibiotics. UK food producers rely on additives and antibiotics for farm animals, creating a crisis in the food chain with humans resistant to antibiotics and increasingly at risk.
Let me ask an open question:
Should the UK government introduce tax incentives for the promotion of organic food?
