The Independent reports Donald Trump declared a loss so substantial on his struggling businesses in 1995 that they may have ensured that he would be freed from paying income tax to the federal government for a full 18 years, citing evidence from the NYT. The Independent suggests that the NYT threw a grenade in the race for president late on Saturday, publishing the Manhattan mogul’s tax return in full for that year showing his then stumbling business empire, principally of hotels and casinos, had reported a shocking loss of $916 million to the tax authorities.
Apart from Trump’s tax affairs, there’s the issue of who bankrolled his failing business empire?
Thoughts?
Dr Alf will know that 18 years only takes us up to 2013 but that in the first debate with Mrs Clinton Donald Trump said that he paid no tax in 2015 some 2 years later.
We do not know whether these tax losses are real or bogus but we do know that at least 1 of his Trump Towers is financed with Chinese money. Other Trump buildings carry the Trump logo but are owned by developers so Trump may be the marketing front end for a number of other people or a laundromat for others wishing to “purify money”.
It is a mystery but one we are none the wiser until it is properly investigated by forensic accountants,a prospect which seems unlikely which begs the question as to why not
