This is an interesting article in the Independent. It reports that David Davis is now the most impressive of the three Brexit ministers whom Theresa May raised to high office. Significantly, it suggests that Boris Johnson was there to be the butt of jokes for her and the Chancellor when they had important speeches to give. Liam Fox got the call so that May could leave out Michael Gove, with whom she got on badly.

There was a time when I admired David Davis as a self-made man without the stigma of privilege but for me he’s been weak and ineffective in his Brexit role.
The real point surely is that all three Brexit ministers have performed badly exposing Theresa May’s absence of leadership?

He may be the best out of a very bad bunch but the apparent lack of plan by all the politicians in charge won’t help any of them to come out of this smelling of roses. I do have admiration for all of them to take on something so huge and difficult – if nothing else…
