Germany and France are pushing for tougher sanctions against Russia. But it could well be an open door in America. In this fast changing world the UK could exert constructive influence. But I fear that there’ll need to be a more diplomatic Foreign Secretary than Boris Johnson.

In this highly recommended article the Guardian reports that a cross-party group of peers accuse ministers of misunderstanding nature of free trade and overestimating negotiating position.

The government should come clean and publish a comprehensive green paper highlighting alternative Brexit strategies, quantifying projected risks, costs and benefits. Ultimately, it’s the government’s responsibility to show the UK people that they were conned.
