This is an important article from Ken Rogoff, the highly acclaimed Harvard professor, published in the UK’s Guardian. He claims that politicians such as Donald Trump, Marine Le Pen and Beppe Grillo are wildcards that could kill off gathering growth.

However, the article recognizes that if Trump is successful when the Chinese Premier visits the US, then Trump could well take the credit for averting an economic crisis. Of course, China wants to be seen to win concessions from Trump too. No doubt, both sides will be superbly briefed. Ultimately, it’s down to negotiation where the Chinese are masters but perhaps Trump could play to his strengths?
