This is a very weak article from the the UK’s liberal Independent. It claims that Donald Trump may have “backed himself into a corner” by threatening North Korea with military action over its weapons tests, citing expert opinion.
There are three levels to this article.
Firstly, there’s the so-called evidence from the expert. If you read the script carefully, the expert’s view is deeply qualified by ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ – there are no assumptions, analysis of evidence and scenarios. We know nothing about the ‘expert”s political bias.
Secondly, the Independent has strung the dots together with the conclusion, ‘It claims that Donald Trump may have “backed himself into a corner”’.
But the third level is most alarming, an editorial spin-doctor has dropped the qualifier ‘It’s claimed’. We now have a perfect example of false news with the Independent creating a sensational headline:
Donald Trump ‘backs himself into corner’ after threatening North Korea with military action over nuclear tests
Social media will now present the third level of analysis as the truth, escalating global risks.
The bottom line is that nobody seeems to be interested in the truth any more? What about the actions of North Korea?
Thoughts?
Dr Alf is right, this is not actually news at all because until either Kim Jong Un or the “Donald”,”Mad Dog” and General Votel blink and back down we will not know whether anyone’s bluff has been called.
One hopes that Kim Jong Un under additional Chinese pressure is the one to blink or that one of his Generals sees sense and deposes him so that the Korean peninsula can once again be reunited under the pro Western regime in the South.
As it is we know nothing of the outcome so the Independent has published a non story.
