In an interesting article, Germany’s DW reports that the German Finance Minister has rejected US charges that Germany’s trade surplus is a sign of unfair policies and called on the Trump administration to remain engaged in trade liberalization.

Personally, I think that the sparks will fly. Schäuble has fired the opening salvo and he’s a wily politician who’s been around a long time. But perhaps it’s time for Germany to change too?

For me, the risks are real. But the challenge is the size of the risks and how they are mitigated. Surely, for the moment, most Western governments are in denial about the Fourth Industrial Revolution?

Young people and forward-thinking parents need to buck the trend and give today’s youngsters the survival skills so that they do not become a social as well as economic causality.
