According to a new survey from Pew Research Center, relatively few people across the globe have confidence in U.S. President Donald Trump to do the right thing when it comes to world affairs. And some of his most prominent policy proposals are deeply unpopular.

Let me make three observations.
1. Trump’s the least popular US president in fifteen years
2. NATO allies have lowest confidence in Trump’s leadership
3. Trump’s limited appeal worldwide rests with those that favour right-wing populism
Elsewhere, we have seen that Trump is happy to befriend other international leaders who share his bigotted political views.
I fear that Trump’s presidency is high risk for world peace. China and Russia stand to gain from US political weakness and will increasingly start to test it. Europe and NATO are likely to be losers. With the UK in political meltdown (left-wing populists Vs. right-wing populists), surely it falls on France’s President Macron to intervene?
Thoughts?
Good Heavens, we are in a deep mess! I totally agree with your observations, many thanks for sharing.
Thanks 🙂
