The conservative Israeli newspaper, the Jerusalem Post, reports that the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) is set to launch a large-scale exercise in preparation for a potential faceoff with the Shi’ite terror group, that continues to pose an imminent danger to the country’s security.
Israel has recently sent teams of top politicians and intelligence experts to both Washington and Moscow, highlighting the risks of Iran replacing ISIS in Syria. As a result of the Obama supported nuclear deal with Iran, sanctions have been removed in Iran, permitting Iran to pump new oil revenues into military spending, like missiles.
Of course, Iran is the strategic enemy of Israel but it’s growing threat as a regional power is worrying elsewhere in the Middle East. Unlike Iran which is Shi’ite, most Muslim states in the Middle East are Sunni and deeply distrustful of Iran, just like Israel.
With ISIS increasingly likely to retreat to Afghanistan, Syria will create a new type of threat.
