Google Sets Limits on Addiction Treatment Ads, City Safety – New York Times

The NYT reports that thousands of small time operators in the high growth $35 Billion addiction treatment business will face a marketing restriction as Google stops ads on related searches. The only precedent for Google is payday lenders and a verification system for locksmiths. The small addiction treatment centers are largely unregulated, with questionable quality, with services ranging from alternative drugs to yoga. Google makes billions of Dollars in advertising revenue. Surely it’s time for Google to offer greater restrictions on advertising?
