Opinion – Forget prorogation, the only thing to do in a complicated political situation is call an election – Op.Ed. William Hague – Telegraph

This op.ed. by William Hague in the Telegraph is a recommended read. I fully occur. The polarization of political opinion and distance from voters is a threat to both democracy and the UK’s strategic interests. An election is the best solution in a difficult situation. It’s time for politicians to renew their mandate from the people. An early election will be a challenge for all political parties but it is the right democratic solution?

Opinion – A class apart – Private Education – State schools can learn from the private sector; governments can work with it – via the Economist

This is an excellent read from the Economist. It argues that Public Sector education must benchmark off Private Sector.
Unfortunately, the Economist article did not go far enough for me. Intervention is also required to address the following areas reducing public sector education’s effectiveness:
  • Political meddling
  • Bureaucracy
  • Union power
