Our early morning boat trip on Periyar Lake was outstanding.  The picturesque Periyar Lake, within the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve is set in the high ranges of the Western Ghats, in God’s Own Country, Kerala, India.

We left our hotel and boarded our 7.30 AM boat. We sat on the upper deck and had a real birds-eye view in the front seats too! There was a great selection of both birds of prey and very colourful and noisy array of small birds. We are not very good at identifying birds, but names that come to mind are Darters, Cormorants…
