The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the Vatican has sacked a gay priest after he came out as gay on the eve of a major meeting of bishops where the Church’s stance on homosexuality is expected to be discussed.

It will be interesting to see the Church’s stance on homosexuality.

It seems that homosexuals as a political group are becoming increasingly powerful. Perhaps it’s time for the Church to set some markers?

The Japan Times reports this Reuters  breaking news that the California legislature on Friday approved a bill to legalize physician-assisted suicide for terminally ill patients despite opposition from religious and disability rights groups. This is a must-read.

In my mind, this is truly pioneering leglislation. Reaction will be carefully monitored around the world, as politicians sharpen their arguments on this hotly contested issue.

Of course, there will be major push-back from conservatives, religious and disability rights groups but on the back of liberalism towards gays and smoking soft drugs, I expect growing acceptance of legal physically-assisted suicide.
