Auction Work Visas After Brexit – Adam Smith Insitute (ASI)

Here’s an excellent read from the ASI. Whatever your views on Brexit, the evidence on quality immigrants is clear. After Brexit, the UK will still need highly skilled immigrants to sustain living standards. This article suggests a novel approach – to auction work visas. Whilst I go along with the majority of the ASI article, I still have serious misgivings about raising the skill levels and productivity of the indigenous population to make the UK globally competitive – this becomes increasingly important as the risks of a global trade war escalate. Much as I don’t rate the quality of Sir James Dyson‘s products, I must agree with him that Theresa May‘s ideas are flacky. This Telegraph article is a must-read. Check it out!

What truly amazes me is that many Tories consider Theresa May as a serious candidate to take over from David Cameron. Theresa May’s Home Office have lost control of UK immigration – this includes not being able to count accurately the number of visitors to the UK.

No doubt politicians, right across the political spectrum, will make errors between now and the election in May. Already the negative campaigning has started.

Why can’t the media focus on the hard evidence and the policy alternatives?
