This is a thoughtful article from Owen Jones, a left-wing columnist, writing in the New Statesman. He maintains that the government needs to connect with people based on their experience with immigrants, such as in the NHS.

As I read the article, I struggled with the dilemma of the UK’s left-wing politicians and left-wing media – they’re out of whack with what people really want. The left-wing political classes like to lead the populist agenda, not be dictated to by it.
Immigration is a complex subject and challenging the traditional political spectrum.
So should the main political parties let their members have free votes on immigration issues?
